Movie Plot

Laxmi is pure Nepal, from the top of her head to the soles of her feet. She has lived her whole life in Ghandruk, a tiny village in the Annapurna Himalayas. There, she runs a little orphanage where she teaches and cares for the children. Though she has never traveled, she has read of countries far and wide and she reveres the books she has read and the lands and cultures in them. While she hasn’t seen very much of the world, she greets every new thing with optimism and an open heart.

Ajit Thapa likes to think of himself as a twenty-first century Nepali man – the face of the country’s future. He has lived and worked in Kathmandu and Pohkara, the two largest cities in the country. He traveled to Florida to get his pilot’s license and perfect his English. He’s been flying now for years and has become an expert bush pilot in Nepal. Ajit navigates the modern world with ease, and is proud to be well-traveled.

Laxmi and Ajit are thrown together because Elizabeth James got herself into another spot of trouble. Her latest exploits were caught on film by the paparazzi, and the horrid photos have been splashed across the tabloids and spread over the internet. Her father is very upset, and worried that the family name will be compromised, so his publicist Claire has hatched a plan to give Elizabeth a fresh start with the media. Elizabeth will travel to Nepal to donate school supplies and work in an orphanage there. Claire will hire her photojournalist friend, Colt Morgan, to document the trips and send back pictures of Elizabeth as she’s doing her humanitarian service. And of course they’ll need a pilot and translator to take them there. It’s a brilliant plan to remodel Elizabeth’s image.

Despite their disparate backgrounds, Elizabeth, Colt, Ajit and Laxmi soon find themselves working side by side in Ghandruk. But each one has come for their own reason, and not all motives are equal. Only their better selves and their shared involvement will determine whether or not they will allow themselves, and this little corner of the world, to be transformed for the better.
